Meet-Up groups
Meetup groups are for new people to the area, or those who just want to meet new people to do fun things together as a group-

Miscelaneous
Other fun things to get involved in!-
The Durham Arts Council offers many classes in the arts: pottery, painting, photography, dance, woodworking, jewelry making, digital arts, music, etc. I am taking a street jazz & hip hop class there currently. It's a blast!
-
CitySearch does a good job of recommending/reviewing places to eat and go out in the RTP area.
-
Just like CitySearch, really. It comes in handy when looking for places to eat etc.
-
There is a free kickoff concert (tonight), but keep an eye out, because they have a lineup of big name bands playing free concerts throughout the summer of 2005 - incl Live, Better than Ezra, Fuel, Collective Soul, Blues Traveler... All free!!
-
This site is great for finding out what's going on in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, and looking up information on local bars and restaurants, etc.

IBM Internal Links
These are for IBM employees only--the links will not work unless you are connected to the IBM w3 intranet-
"The RTP WDNG is committed to providing a welcoming environment that fosters opportunities for women to grow personally and professionally. " The WDNG does some community, professional, and personal development activities.
-
NextStep will do new hire lunches and sponsor fun and I think sometimes informational events outside of work or during lunch hours for new hires to network and hang out. The website is horribly outdated right now.
-
This recently formed group sponsors girl-events for those in the cross section of 'nextstep' and 'wdng' (above). For instance they did a cooking class at Irregardless cafe and are planning girls nights out or a trip to the theatre.

Volleyball Links
I haven't joined a league or anything, but here are some links I found when searching for one. I haven't investigated thoroughly.-
"The RTPVL runs two 10 week outdoor volleyball seasons (Spring and Fall), each ending in a single elimination tournament. Prizes are awarded to both the regular season and tournament champions. The format is 6 person teams" on grass courts throughout RTP
-
A King and Queen's court league that appears to be active only during the spring and summer. I haven't investigated enough.
-
This looks like another local tournament site. I assume you can sign up through the roster/email. There are some other links at the bottom, too. Once again, I haven't investigated this at all.
